Underpinning this mission is a commitment to a culture that embraces the diversity and privacy of our patients and the communities we serve, as well as our employees and directors, and a commitment to act as a good corporate citizen in the governance of our company.  To ensure the execution of these commitments, we provide extensive training to our employees regarding our policies and culture.

Patients and providers:

 

Science 37 empowers diversity in clinical trials. We make clinical research more accessible to underserved populations to enable representation of real-world populations. Diverse audiences want to participate in clinical trials but so often, are not asked, overlooked, or unable to access because of geographic barriers. The Science 37 Metasite enables universal access to patients and providers, leading to a more diverse patient population. Leveraging the Metasite, Science 37’s mission is to collaborate with patients, employees, sponsors, and community organizations who share our vision of eliminating health disparities in underrepresented communities through our patient-centered hybrid and decentralized clinical trial approach. 

 

In 2022, Science 37 released an intranet page called External DE&I in Clinical Trials as a resource to our employees that provides a framework, methodologies, and insights to accelerate our “diversity in clinical trials” initiatives.

Science 37’s accomplishments with respect to our priority to attract and retain diverse talent include:

 

  • We developed recruiting processes using best practices for diversity, equity and inclusion, including with respect to job descriptions, interview design, compensation analysis, and employment offers.
  • We expanded our geographic reach to attain a more diverse talent base.
  • We implemented an H1-B visa process to engage with work-eligible immigrants in the U.S.
  • We partnered with specialized networks to source high-quality, under-represented talent; partnerships include WATBD (job board for black designers), Mom Project (talent marketplace for professional women with children), and Black Women in Clinical Research (industry resource group).
  • Our goal for 2023 includes the addition of Unconscious Bias training for all employees and supporting workshops for managers.
  • Of Science 37’s total employee population, approximately 57% are women and approximately 37% identify as non-white.
  • Of our employees comprising Science 37’s senior executive team, approximately 41% are women.
  • Of Science 37’s total newly hired employees in 2022, approximately 60% were women and approximately 32% identified as non-white.

 

In evaluating the suitability of individual director candidates for election to the Board and filling vacancies on the Board, the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, in recommending candidates for election, and the Board, in approving (and, in the case of vacancies, appointing) such candidates, consider, among other things, a candidate’s potential contribution to the diversity of background and perspective of our Board of Directors, including, but not limited to, with respect to age, geographic background, gender, race, ethnicity, place of residence and specialized experience. Our Board currently includes three diverse directors as specified under Nasdaq rules, and Science 37’s Board Diversity Matrix is as follows:

Our Commitment to Data Privacy and Information Security:

 

Science 37 is committed to protecting the privacy rights of our employees, business partners and clinical trial participants.  Science 37 complies with applicable global privacy laws, including the GDPR, and operationalizes Privacy by Design to ensure privacy is protected throughout the lifecycle of processing clinical trial participants’ data. Science 37’s Chief Privacy Officer leads the company’s Privacy Program but all employees are responsible for protecting privacy and data.  We respect participants’ fundamental right to privacy and are continually evaluating our technology and business operations with protecting that right in mind. We provide routine privacy training to our employees annually with specific new privacy training for all new hires. Science 37 takes our role in the facilitating safe and secure clinical trials seriously including the role of our employees (Squad members) as a first line of defense.  For example, the Science 37 internal Cybersecurity training program includes both Monthly Cybersecurity education exercises to all Squad members with frequent spot-phishing tests.  Science 37 Cybersecurity, Human Resources, Managers, and Talent Performance teams track this performance to help us baseline Science 37 employee (Squad) engagement as a first line human defense layer against Cyber threats.  We supplement this routine Cybersecurity training with specific new onboarding training for all new hires, Company-wide Cyber content specific Lunch-n-Learns, and targeted education sessions throughout the year.  Finally, our global leadership team receives frequent cyber memo-summaries on various Cyber programs that emphasize and remind the global leadership team of their responsibilities in helping uphold the integrity of our commitment to our patients and sponsors from a Cybersecurity perspective.  All these programs receive strong support from our CEO, our senior executive team and our Board of Directors.

As part of our commitment to the development of our employee population, we provide extensive training and benefits.

 

  • All new employees attend a live, interactive New Hire Orientation session on their first day with our Employee Experience Manager, as well as live IT Orientation for real-time technical support from our IT professionals
  • We provide a comprehensive introduction to our Mission, Vision, Values and "Culture that Competes" framework, as well as emphasize our Culture of Quality and training and procedural expectations of all employees.
  • We provide standardized Week 1 eLearning for all new hires that spans 54 microlearning courses providing an overview of our company, key concepts of Clinical Research, IT Training, and decentralized clinical at Science 37 and the Science 37 Platform.
  • Every new Squad member receives a personalized enterprise onboarding checklist to guide them through week one activities.
  • We deploy Harassment Prevention training to all employees and re-certify employees on a regular cadence.
  • We provide a 6-week immersive curriculum for certain roles (such as project managers) that spans 150 microlearning courses.
  • Science 37's Living Our Values Award Program is a quarterly, peer-nominated recognition program designed to uplift and celebrate team members that are exemplifying our organization's values through their contributions to the organization.
  • In 2023, we plan to initiate a Yearly Squad Educational Calendar comprised of monthly trainings on a variety of topics.

It is the duty of the Board of Directors to serve as a prudent fiduciary for shareholders and to oversee the management of the Company's business. To fulfill its responsibilities and to discharge its duty, the Board of Directors follows the procedures and standards that are set forth in the Corporate Governance guidelines. These guidelines are subject to modification from time to time as the Board of Directors deems appropriate in the best interests of the Company or as required by applicable laws and regulations.
